It’s no shock that a good electric fence will save money in the long run

Putting up sturdy, reliable fencing is a wise choice for any farmer. Fencing is one of those unavoidable tasks requiring your attention as you maintain and upgrade the farm and investing in strong fences makes good farming sense. No one wants to spend all their time repairing faulty fencing and fixing gaps in the fence. Fences not only protect valuable livestock but also prevent unwanted guests from grazing your land and trampling crops. A good fence erected well should stand the test of time and free you up for tackling all those other pressing jobs. It is as much about keeping the animals in, as it is about keeping others out. At Gibson’s Online, we stock everything you need for fencing, from sheep wire to gripples, and at a cost that won’t break the bank. So, whether you are keeping the herd in, protecting crops, or erecting specialised forestry fencing we will have the right tool for the job.

Electric Fencing

Electric fences offer a tempting alternative to the more conventional wire and barbed wire fencing. Electric fences operate by giving the intruding or escaping animal a wee bit of a shock! The power energizer element of the fencing converts power into a quick high voltage pulse. The pulse is released on an insulated fence line, delivering a jolt to anything in contact. The shock itself only lasts approximately 150 microseconds. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of a short electric fence shock will agree that it feels quite a bit longer than that! Animals quickly learn the boundaries defined by the short, safe jolt from an electric fence. In our electric fencing department, we have underground cable, a high tensile, double insulated cable recommended for use with all electric fencers to carry all current from the energiser to the earth bars and fence line to prevent loss of current. It can also be used for breaks in fence lines for example across roadways or gate ways. It can be used above ground or underground and is made with durable plastic which it gives the cable a prolonged lifespan. We stock Polytwine made from UV protected plates for long lasting use.

An electric fence is completely adaptable and can be moved from place to place or used to cordon off parts of a field. Mains Electric fencers the battery fencer is the powerhouse and its always useful to buy one that has a low battery warning light. Rutland ESD 1600 Dual Fencer is a versatile battery fencer for small and medium fencing to hold back cows and sheep. It can work from a 12voltbattery or a 230v mains. The type of fence, whether battery system or mains system is entirely up to you and your farming needs. Sometimes you need a stronger fence for a stronger animal and sometimes the mains option is just not suitable.

Good fencing means good neighbours. Animals straying onto the road, or the property of others can be a real headache for any farmer. There are grave consequences to consider should your cattle or sheep be deemed responsible for an accident and there are financial and legal issues to face. Of course, your public liability insurance will cushion the blow, but prevention in the form of reliable fencing may avoid the nightmare scenario altogether. Many farmers prefer an electrified fence as a safer way of enclosing their fields. There is less chance of an animal becoming entangled in a briar bush or in barbed wire causing possible injury. Investment in good fencing makes complete sense and at our prices, it’s a no-brainer. Contact us with any of your fencing queries and we will be happy to assist.
